Synchronism is about young adults coming of age in the Information Age. With the interactive elements of the story, you can see how their lives parallel the lives of young people in earlier eras.
The setting is Leetstown, Pennsylvania in 2006, where a town built on the steel industry is attempting to revitalize itself as a hub of modern technology. Although fictional, the town is loosely (and sometimes not so loosely) based on several real towns.
Synch was originally started in January 2006, but I ran into some problems with story pacing and bad planning. I knew the story I wanted to tell, but it wasn't able to go in the direction I wanted it to. After an extended hiatus, I've restarted the story from the beginning. A lot of things have changed, and a lot of things have stayed the same. I may post a zip of the 40 pages in the "first draft" at some point.
The story does have a planned beginning, middle, and end, after which it will be over. The characters may pop up in future works, but Synchronism as it is is just one story. It will probably be about 150 pages, but this could change as things progress.
As the story goes on, there will be some suggestive adult situations. It is not recommended for those under 15.
I started making webcomics in 2003 under the pen name Reva Sharp. My first project, "Back in the Day," was about my friends and I and our wacky high school adventures. I copied and pasted drawings in MS Paint, used mostly inside jokes, and set the dialogue in Comic Sans. Someday I will get a hold of a time machine and give my past self a stern talking to. I went on to do another comic called "The Epilogue" about a bunch of dead authors, poets, and playwrights interacting in the afterlife. It wasn't quite as bad.
I've recently decided to stop using the pen name and start using my real name, Katie Sekelsky. My apologies to anyone trying to pronounce it or remember how to spell it.
Currently I live in Pennsylvania, where I have an adorable kitten named Kiya and work as a graphic designer.
Other things of interest: I collect old stereoview cards. I've broken my left arm in 3 places. And I make pretty awesome brownies.
